DRAW OUT with Farina Alam
EST 2017
Draw Out is an after-school art program founded by the Pakistani printmaker/etcher & drawing artist Farina Alam.
Graduating with M.F.A. from Slade School of Fine Art UCL, Farina Alam is a studio art practitioner based in London. She has taught drawing & specialised in art education for London galleries, the British Council UK and British Council overseas, and in Pakistan.
She runs group workshops at her West London studio, and private tutorials at client's residence.
The overarching aim of "Draw Out' is to discover the joy of mark making, and learn a wide range of drawing techniques.
Farina uses a mixed media approach, where traditional drawing methods and experimental mark making are studied side by side to acquire a personal creative style.
Historical and contemporary art references are incorporated in the lesson plan to allow exposure to visual vocabulary, and pictoral interpretation.
Through a framework of tutorials , participants dip into Rorschach’s ink grams, Warhol’s ink blot drawings, Banksy’s stencils, & Matisse’s cutouts to name a few.
Mediums included in the course are HB pencils, graphite sticks, compressed charcoal, Black India ink, water color, gouache, acrylic paints, felt tip pens, cartridge paper and an A3 portfolio.
